The purpose of the K20CETC is to bring together all of the California K-20 educational community
to ensure that the knowledge, power, and voice held by each individual segment is leveraged and enhanced to the benefit of all.
To that end, we have developed project groups dedicated to the following areas of interest to the California K-20
educational community:
- New Media Link
-
Rich media have expanded the concept of "visual aids" far beyond the traditional classroom experience from years past. However, integrating high-quality digital media into the modern
classroom experience is a complex task and is impacted by a range of factors, including standards for media and metadata, resource availability, and awareness of available resources.
Additionally, all of these resources need to be integrated into teaching and learning without excluding those students with disabilities.
The K20CETC is working with the California State University's Digital Marketplace Initiative to develop common standards for digital resources so educators can easily identify the resources
they need.
- CAHSEE Preparation Link
-
The California High School Exit Exam (or CAHSEE) is a requirement for high school graduation in the state of California and was created by the California Department of Education to
improve the academic performance of California high school students -- especially of high school graduates -- in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. Public school students
must pass the exam before they can receive a high school diploma, regardless of any other graduation requirements.
However, in order for the test to become an instrument to support achievement for California's students, adequate preparation must be made available, both to students who have yet to
take the CAHSEE, and also to students who did not pass. The K20CETC worked to make online preparation resources and support available to students and their teachers.
- Online Course Delivery Link
-
Online courses offered by California's Community Colleges can be of great use to many K-12 students and can provide students with opportunities to accelerate their pathway through college.
Not only do courses need to be designed and delivered, but delivery methods must be considered so that the courses are highly engaging and effective.
The K20CETC is working to integrate media-rich resources into the California Community Colleges' online courses and to ensure that students are aware of course offerings.
- Career Exploration/STEM Link
-
Career choices and pathways to preferred careers can be daunting to today's students. Using The Real Game California, students can become familiar with the lifelong process of career
exploration and how to pursue their ambitions.
- Communities of Learning & Interest Link
-
Learning Communities and Communities of Interest are groups of individuals and organizations who share a common interest, subject area, or problem set, and who come together on an
ongoing basis (and primarily online) to develop solutions to shared problems, to share information, and to collaborate to expand and deepen their knowledge and expertise, and to
improve and enrich student learning experiences. The K20CETC will focus on supporting both intersegmental virtual and face-to-face communities in selected areas in order to demonstrate
the ways new technology can support collaboration.
- Telemedicine and Medical Education Link
-
Schools have always had a significant role to play in public health, from vaccination programs to the dissemination of vital information. The education community is using online resources
and tools to address workforce shortages in the healthcare industry.
The K20CETC will support such efforts and partnerships with telemedicine providers.
- Technology Advocacy Link
-
The California K-20 educational community operates within larger structures, both political and economic, and is often heavily influenced by the general climate, decisions, and practices
within these structures. Representing the interests of this community within these structures is vital to ensure that our society continues to recognize the value provided to California, the
nation, and the world by the educational community, how the political and economic climate impacts all of us, and how it can contribute to the mission of preparing California for the
challenges of the 21st century.
- Extending Shared Functionality Link
-
With over 10,000 K-12 schools, 58 county offices of education, 110 CCC campuses, 23 CSU campuses, 11 UC campuses, and many other educational service providers, communication about technology
resources and needs is essential. The K20CETC.s meetings provide opportunities for segments to explore common needs and solutions and to identify cost-effective and efficient methods
for addressing technology needs.
